A pair of "lightly clad" trampers have been rescued off Mt Ngauruhoe.
Police were contacted by the pair shortly after 2pm today. They had become lost in cloud around the summit on Mt Ngauruhoe.
"The lightly clad duo had set out on a stunning spring day only to be caught out by cloud then becoming lost," Sergeant Shane McNally of the Taupo police said.
"Fortunately they had a method of communication and did the right thing, stayed put and called for help".
The Taupo Greenlea Rescue Helicopter dropped two members from Ruapehu Alpine Rescue Organisation below the cloud line. The lost duo were found about 30 minutes later and airlifted back to safety.
