I would venture that on a buy-weekly basis, the average family are roughly 5 per cent worse off than they were last year.
And this before the power bill comes in.
I have family in the US, Canada, UK and Australia so it is easy to compare prices. We are being well and truly ripped off when it comes to everyday prices of what I would consider essentials.

Heart of the city dying
The city-centre area was the heart of the town when I was a boy.
It's a pity Kmart or NZ Post aren't in the centre with free time-limit parking.
It's like making the hub of a wheel a drawcard.
Something could still be built in the heart of the city for that very reason and landscaped accordingly, but what? Maybe someone could come up with an idea?
