'Pandering' to unvaxxed a surprise
Just as the prehistoric humans, Homo erectus, adapted to their newfound mobility by learning to transport fire in fire pots to easily set up campsites as they travelled searching for life-bettering resources - we too are facing the need to adapt to challenges.
It is encouraging to see the vast majority of Rotorua - 89 per cent - has decided to adapt to the pandemic by sensibly receiving a Covid-19 vaccination to best protect ourselves from the deadly virus.
This is why it's surprising to see some businesses pandering to the 11 per cent refusing to protect themselves.
While the pro-virus crowd may be loud and their comparisons of community health measures to the atrocities of Nazi Germany are off-putting, this minority has chosen to segregate themselves from the rest.
Just as I expect my eggs benedict to be prepared following food safety laws, I expect businesses to keep us all safe – this seems basic.
For the majority of us who have adapted, let's be kind to workers by making sure our vaccine pass is ready to be scanned as they adjust to the new normal.
Homo erectus adapted to the times – we will too.

Landlords must be allowed to enforce rules
I heartily agree with Merepeka Raukawa-Tait's comments (Opinion, December 1) regarding rental property.
The right of landlords, whether that be the state or private property owners, to set standards of acceptable behaviour and treatment of their property by tenants must be sacrosanct.
Appropriate penalties for those who fail to abide by those standards without a valid excuse must also be allowed.
To do otherwise fosters irresponsible behaviour and a lack of respect for other people.
