Complacency creeping in
The editorial by Kiri Gillespie (Opinion, January 20) is true.
I sat in a cafe in Hastings last Friday morning having breakfast watching the customers come and go, mainly for coffee.
About 30 customers came and went in the time we took to gobble our meal and none of them actually scanned in. There were some older people among them too.
All this complacency annoyed me and just as we got up to leave a youngish woman scanned in and as she came in I said to her "I've been sitting here watching and you are the only person so far to scan in here, good lady". She replied that we need to keep doing it and not be complacent about it.
I agreed with her and watched as she walked over to an old couple sitting waiting. The couple were probably late in their 70s or early 80s and they were complacent. It's very interesting just watching these complacent people who will just blame the Government when the "Covid" hits the fan.
Try watching some of the higher patronage businesses - you'll be surprised and disgusted by complacency.
