Beating child poverty
Re Child poverty (Rotorua Daily Post, December 13).
Fake news! These feet are not of a child that doesn't have shoes. Too clean!
Op shops are happy to dress real kids in need. Often for free. We all started off as equals. From the womb!
The rest is up to each person to hold their head high and look after themselves and their families.
Grow a garden. Stop smoking and drinking. Get rid of pets that are expensive to feed. Get budget advice. Stop buying takeaways and junk food. Live within your means. Get rid of credit cards. Save up and only buy what you need! Not what you want. It works! That's how to get a home etc. Go without now and then.

Roundabout sculpture
To avoid another incident like the mud debacle, I sincerely hope that the council has researched the health and safety issues of the Hemo roundabout sculpture.
Firstly - the construction and strength of the structure that enables people to safely use the walkways underneath it. Secondly – maintenance cleaning of cobwebs, bird excrement or black exhaust fumes from the structure. Is scaffolding able to be safely erected around the sculpture without interfering with traffic flow?
Thirdly - durability against sulphur – has the intended construction material been tried
and tested as suitable for the Rotorua environment. Finally – what is the annual lighting
and maintenance budget and who is liable – NZTA or council? Let's hope the council
has been thorough and done all their homework on Hemo, before committing ratepayers
funds.

Traffic solution
A solution for traffic congestion and pollution from cars.
It's easy and cheap, bring back carless days for all combustion fuel cars, that would ease congestion straight away and make all electric vehicles exempt at the same time. The electric car industry would struggle to keep up with demand and Aucklanders could enjoy their city again in a win-win situation. Little old New Zealand would be a world leader in converting to electric vehicles.
All I've heard from politicians is that any solution to solve traffic congestion is not a quick fix, well I beg to differ, this solution is instant and looks far into the future. The money saved from traffic congestion problems would be in the tens of millions.

Recommendations made by Coroner Bain are uselessly pointless unless followed through by those in positions to do so. Name changes to government organisations such as: CYPS to CYFS now known as Oranga Tamariki, did and do nothing to protect our most vulnerable taonga, our babies.
Heads need to roll and that means, do the job you are paid to do, or lose it due to negligence, failure to protect our future.
