We came for the 19th time last weekend for the marathon. Wonderful weather in the best setting for the best marathon race in the world. A new feature was a grand line-up of winners of all age groups at the prize giving. There is no other full marathon event that gives credit to the veteran age groups the way Rotorua's does.

The tribute to Bernie Portenski was deeply moving for us all.

Later, the Survivors' Club Dinner was likewise an event that is homegrown to honour the lake and those who have survived at least 15 circuits of it on race day.

Kia ora.

When you go to the supermarket check your receipts! My wife does this, meticulously, and without fail every time she finds a mistake in the store's favour!

Now think about it, this is purely "human error"! The person who buys the goods for the store possible error one, the person who prices the goods - error two, the store worker who sets the price for the shelf stacker - error three, the person who stacks the shelf - error four, the checkout girl - error five - a full total of five opportunities for error - and this happens 99 per cent of the time we shop!

I know many people who don't even take a receipt when offered to them, let alone check it! In our case, it amounts to several dollars every week, hundreds every year. Can you really afford that? Even in restaurants mistakes are made. It takes only moments to look at your receipt. Many mistakes are made when the till doesn't pick up on special offers.

Most of the people handling your money are wage earners, mistakes do not affect them. Why should they care? It is up to you. It's your money.
