I would think there would be more than one critic that thinks the Hemo Gorge sculpture is unnecessary and extravagent.

How come, in a town where the mayor is all for "timber first" we get people wanting to make a monolith out of stainless steel? It turns out to be that difficult that the stainless steel monolith is no longer viable but another bunch have come up with the idea of a 3D printed one.

Councillor Hunt is getting a bit carried away with her importance with her statement, "My aim is to make us the art centre of the country". If you ask me, she's getting too big for her boots and needs to stop making as if it's all her idea.

I can't figure out why the monolith is not being carved by Te Puia carvers. I'm sure they could use $500,000. And as for sticking the thing in the middle of that roundabout you'd have to ask who came up with that stupid idea?

Just imagine all the tourists crawling around the roundabout while staring at the monolith. Good traffic management at its best.

If the powers that be can't figure out an alternative location they can feel free to contact me and I'll tell them what to do with their monolith.

It has taken me many months to write this letter, but after seeing coloured house roofs in your paper, which brings back the "clean green image" I grew up with all these 70-plus years [I have].

Now, over the past 10 to 20 years we have housing developers building housing estates with black and dark-coloured roofs. Why?

And to top it off, I live across from the old RSA building and the new owners have painted the whole building wall, you guessed it, black.
