Fortunately, that project was canned.
Now they want to build a boardwalk out over the water. The wind will blow the weed over it, and the birds will use it to roost and as a toilet. It will take constant work to keep it clean.
Parents will have to keep a very close eye on little ones, so they don't step off into the water.
From a report on the council meeting about the project and the bitter comments made, it seems that they are determined that it will go ahead despite the opposition. Now, where is that petition? I want to sign it!

Puzzle of parking
Lovely morning (October 6), but the delight faded after I had happily skipped out to retrieve the Rotorua Daily Post. It was one of those bad news days.
Helicopter gone, gruesome murder with all the details, the fate of our dogs collected for the pound, and then the possible horrors of our new parking system which sounds so incredibly complicated that my poor brain gave up.
What about the disabled car parks ... what about this or that situation. It was all too much. I can't bear it - as an old loved friend used to wail, hands in the air.
I shall set the newspaper aside, and spend the day in the garden and puzzle later as to cope with parking.

Anglers here to stay
The Rotorua Anglers Association has just completed another successful Fish Out
at the hatchery thanks to Fish & Game that's 250 more children introduced to fly
fishing for trout and hopefully a love of the outdoors & the Kiwi way of life.
CC McDowall (Letters, October 6) you stand as much chance as getting rid of the All Blacks.

Folly of their ways
You may have noticed the local council have a penchant for wasting our money on "nice to have" things that only increase the indebtedness of that said council.
I find it amazing how the powers that be can't see the folly of their ways when everyone else knows that living outside your income only ends in tears.
Take a look at all those "nice to have" things. Here are a few that come to mind.
A statue in the middle of a very dangerous roundabout. I don't know what OSH think about creating a hazard and NZ Transport Agency must be wondering if they did improve that intersection because there's been an incident there already.
The airport fiasco. $4.4m for what? To make a Koru lounge for the rich and famous to frequent, so they don't have to sit with us commoners? Lovely.
Thousands of people come and go from this city by coach, and yet they have to sit outside and load their baggage in all sorts of nasty weather, however, the council overlooked that fact when they increased the size of that silly park by the silly health centre/library.
That Lakefront circus they are proposing. Macpherson and Searancke are right on the money with a petition but will it make one blind bit of difference to the dreamers in the ivory tower? I'd say not!
It appears money is easily wasted when it's not yours. Where do I sign?

Details missing?
In response to Craig Tiriana (Letters, October 13), I'd like to know why the important features mentioned were not included in the illustration published in the Rotorua Daily Post.
In that illustration, where was the new playground situated? Surely it's going to be big enough to feature on even the most basic or original plan.
Where was the car parking to be situated? There was no hint of it on the big reveal.
Where was a path around the water's edge, or are people to walk along grass with a chance of slipping into the water. A pathway adequate for meandering along the lake shore is surely substantial enough to feature in a concept plan.
Why publish a design with the most important features missing?
