There appear to be some inconsistencies around our application of hate speech.
After watching TV shows, movies, the radio and people in real life, I hear the constant use of the name Jesus Christ used as an expletive. People who believe in Jesus are routinely accused of all sorts ofdreadful things and I never hear any defence or balanced discussion about it.
While there are constant appeals to respect the feelings of women, members of eastern religions and tribal affiliates, apparently people who worship Jesus Christ don't count.
Jesus told his followers to "turn the other cheek", but this matter of "hate speech" is becoming a form of institutionalised persecution of followers of Christ. Imagine if everybody used the name of Mahomet as an expletive? What would happen?
Well said Jim, you are so right and perfect timing with your words at this time of the year.
For you are actually using the words of Jesus said to all believers 2000 years ago known as the golden rule in Matthew 7:12 and again in Matthew 22:39, "Love one another as I have loved you".
After 2000 years we still find that hard to do, but it works and changes lives.
