Legislating morality back into market

Award-winning documentary maker and author Bryan Bruce is coming to Rotorua to deliver his "State of the Nation" talk.

Mr Bruce will focus on mirroring his upbringing with Prime Minister John Key and how divergent ideals have come to shape the look and feel of modern day New Zealand.

Host of TV One's The Investigator, and best known for his work on Inside Child Poverty and Mind The Gap, Mr Bruce's seminar offers to be an insightful and entertaining chance for Rotorua locals to hear and participate in dialogue with one of New Zealand's leading experts on child poverty and economics.

"Long lists of recommended solutions are being ignored. We are doing very little to make New Zealand a place where everyone gets a fair go," he said.

"Economic decisions, in the end, are moral decisions. It's high time to legislate some morality back into the marketplace, so that what we do matches what we know and what we say."

The talk has been arranged by Labour Rotorua, and while Mr Bruce is far from biased, Labour spokesman for Rotorua Tamati Coffey was excited by the evening ahead.

"It's not every day we are able to have a journalist of Bryan's calibre come to our city," he said.

"Bryan assures us he will deliver an open and frank conversation, where even Labour isn't without fault due to failures in our past. After all, if we aren't learning from our past how can we as a party or a nation move forward?"

Mr Bruce has spoken all over New Zealand.

He will speak at St Luke's Church from 6.30pm this Friday. Everyone is welcome with the seminar costing a gold coin.
