Kehu's close shave for cause

Kehu Marino, 12, will shave his head during the Professionals McDowell Real Estate Child Cancer Charity Breakfast and Art Auction.

After losing his grandmother and his mother battling cancer, a John Paul College student will be shaving his head to raise funds for child cancer.

Kehu Marino, 12, will shave his head at the Professionals McDowell Real Estate Child Cancer Charity Breakfast and Art Auction next week.

He said his mum had bowel cancer when he was 3 and she won the battle.

"We're glad to have her still."

He lost his grandmother when he was 2 to bowel and lung cancer.

He said he had been growing the top of his hair and hadn't had a haircut in about a month.

Kehu said he felt all right about having his head shaved because he won't have to do it in the morning and won't have "a bad hair day". Kehu is looking for lots of sponsorship and people to visit his fundraising page, as he wants to reach $3000.

The Professionals McDowell Real Estate Child Cancer Charity Breakfast and Art Auction is being held on Friday, March 11, from 7am to 8.30am at the Distinction Hotel.

A portion of the funds raised remain in Rotorua.

This will be the 23rd year of the annual charity event and painted pieces from 12 children are expected to be auctioned off. Tickets cost $30 and are available from Professionals McDowell Real Estate.
