Jessica Caulfield is Rotorua's Miss Pinup finalist

She's not the first Rotorua woman to make the final 10 of a beauty pageant, but she is the first Rotorua woman to be named as a finalist in Miss Pinup New Zealand.

Jessica Caulfield is one of 10 Kiwi women vying for the Miss Pinup New Zealand title, a pageant run as part of The Very Vintage Day Out 2017.

To enter, contestants must love the pinup and vintage culture, and Miss Caulfield certainly does.

"I have always loved American classic cars and I guess the love affair started there," she said.

"I'm not a fan of modern styles and choose to dress and wear my hair and makeup every day as ladies wore theirs in the 1950s."

She and her partner, Brett Forlong, own Rotorua's Kulture Shock, a retro and vintage lifestyle shop.

"It's fair to say I've made a job of it too."

To enter Miss Pinup New Zealand, Miss Caulfield had to submit three professional photos and a two-minute video.

"I'm a hairdresser by trade so I made a video detailing how to create a vintage hairstyle. And in one of the photos I'm dressed as a cowgirl as I ride horses too."

During the weekend of October 28 and 29, Miss Caulfield will travel to Auckland to take part in the pageant.

"It's like all other beauty pageants, with sections in day wear, evening wear, swim wear and talent, except all must be in vintage theme."

The Very Vintage Day Out is a festival bringing together lovers of all things vintage, to celebrate a by-gone era. It features all day entertainment, high tea and shopping.
