Police are still actively investigating the murder of George Taiaroa.

Police are still actively investigating the murder of George Taiaroa.

As the second anniversary of the fatal shooting of George Taiaroa approaches next week, police are still actively investigating his murder and continue to make progress.

Mr Taiaroa was killed on March 19, 2013 while working at a road construction site in Atiamuri.

"New Zealand Police has an excellent record
of early resolution in homicide investigations," Detective Inspector Tim Anderson said.

"Every now and then we face an investigation of greater complexity that requires extra patience and tenacity.

The passing of time doesn't lower our resolve; if anything it increases our determination, and the team remains committed to bringing the man responsible for the murder of Mr Taiaroa to justice.

"Work has been ongoing to identify and pursue new avenues and forensic possibilities, and we continually review the wealth of information we have gathered to ensure no opportunities are missed," Mr Anderson said.

"In the last 12 months we have also undertaken some work with law enforcement experts overseas.

In order to protect the integrity of the investigation I can't comment on the nature of that work, but it is fair to say we have made some progress."

Police said two years on, nothing has diverted them away from its theory behind the murder and there remains one prime suspect.

Police said they know from experience that people can hold on to snippets of information because they don't consider it relevant.

"That information may in fact be very valuable and it is never too late to pass it on."
