Owhata Indoor Bowling Club player Delwyn Hughes is delighted after winning the Bay of Plenty Championship Triples title last weekend.

The championships were played in Ngongotaha Hall where Hughes' was helped by team mates Derek Owen and Gina Owen, to win her eighth BOP Centre title after a 21-year gap.

In the final they defeated last year's champion Kristine East from Citizens Club, 12-6 Citizens' team was completed with brother and sister Josh and Jessica Mills.

The crucial match, over nine ends, saw the Owhata combination lead 7-0 after four ends of the nine end final.

On the fifth end, East scored four shots but Derek Owen immediately replied with four shots on the sixth end to lead 11-4 and the Owhata triple then maintained their grip on the game to win 12-6.

Hughes won her first title in 1979. Owen has now also won his eighth trophy while Gina Owen took home her sixth.

The side had previously finished runner-up last week in the Bay of Plenty Mixed Fours.

But made every post a winning one last weekend, going through the tournament unbeaten.

And the plate event for non-qualifiers in the main event was won by Brian Flett, Keith Richardson and Sid Gumbley also from Owhata Indoor Bowling Club.
