Participating schools, charities and educational institutions will gain the proceeds from Rotorua's inaugural Community Book Fair - anticipated to become an annual event - put on by the Heart of Tutanekai St group on October 3.
The fundraiser is aimed at encouraging community involvement and promoting reading efforts.
Event organiser Sarah Little hopes at least 1000 people will come.
"I'm hoping it will attract night market fans with the location and look forward to working together and having some good fun hopefully in the sun," she said.
Save the Children Rotorua chairman and Life Education Trust trustee Jo-Anne La Grouw has registered both trusts in the book fair and hailed the event as an innovative initiative.
The Heart of Tutanekai St group focuses on increasing Rotorua's appeal to locals and visitors, promoting the diverse businesses within the block and giving back to the community.
The book fair will be held in the heart of Tutanekai St, between Haupapa and Pukuatua streets, from 10am to 3pm on October 3.
If the weather is bad, the following Sunday has been scheduled as a back-up day.
Registrations for book fair stalls will be open until all are filled. Registration costs $25 and forms will appear in The Daily Post and can also be obtained by emailing Sarah Little at info@sabroso.co.nz.
