Ice cold dunking to help a good cause

Go to the bar and you expect to get ice in your drink, not poured over your head - but it's not every time there is an ice challenge going on.

Lava Bar hosted the Ice Challenge last night after Rotorua woman Emma Jenkins decided to set up a mass challenge after being nominated.

She was among around 30 people to dunk their feet in a tub of iced water and then have a bucket of iced water tipped over their heads. "It was good fun," she said of the event.

"Sticking my feet in the water was the worst part, it was so cold. You could feel the ice cubes. The bucket was a shock. It throws you and then I froze.

The Ice Challenge is a social media craze of nominating people to plunge themselves in icy water or have the water poured over them, be filmed doing it, post to Facebook and challenge others to follow suit.

Those who took part yesterday each donated $10 and the final amount raised is being donated to the Cancer Society.

"I wasn't expecting that many people to come on a Sunday night so I was quite happy with the turnout. I'm not in a hurry to do it again but if I had to and for a good cause I would."

She thanked the Lava Bar for hosting the event as well as those who participated.
