The excitement for Rotorua's third annual GLO festival has not dampened as hundreds of locals gathered to ring in the new year together.

Many families secured their spots at the Lakefront early yesterday evening with entertainment starting from 6pm.

Among the performers were popular Kiwi boy band Titanium, X-Factor runner-up Whenua Patuwai, Rotorua singer Alayna Powley and former X-Factor contestant Cameron Rota.

Titanium had a special treat for fans, putting aside time to do meet and greets, and sign albums.

"Mega fan" Tamara Cookson, 12, said she was looking forward to seeing Titanium the most.

"I will definitely be in line to meet them. They are the act I am most looking forward to watching tonight."

Tamara and her friends Summer Brogden, 14, Haydee Brogden, 14, and Caitlyn Gibson, 15, said they had gone to Party in the Park every year.

"It's a family thing where we all come down here [Lakefront] to hang out and celebrate the new year. It's definitely the best place to be in Rotorua," Summer said.

The concert finished with an early evening fireworks display over Lake Rotorua at 9.15pm.

Debbie Leigh, granny to Jessica, 8, Kalea, 2, Bailey, 9, and Kalani, 6, said Party in the Park was a great family event.

"Coming here to celebrate New Year's has become a bit of a family tradition. It's great to see what Rotorua has to offer.

"The whole thing is really about spending time with your family and enjoying each other's company - the saying goes, how do kids spell love? T.I.M.E, there's a lot of truth to that."

From 10pm, crowds were drawn back to the main stage which was a-buzz with music until midnight when a major fireworks display lit up the sky to signal the official beginning of 2015.

Today, the First Big Brunch, held at the Lakefront, will bring an end to the festivities. Metservice forcasts rain clearing in the morning, then becoming fine with a high of 24C.
