"Easter is always a busy time as we have lots of holidaymakers arrive. It is also not uncommon to have specific events tied to Easter as well so it is a busy time in our district," she said. "As a result, we are expecting our hospitals to be quite busy."
Ms Wilkie said it was important to take care to avoid coming to grief.
"People need to take all the precautions and planning steps they normally would for any holiday. This means if they have a long term condition such as asthma or blood pressure, they need to make sure they are not going to run out of medicine and they need to know where to go if they do need medical help.
"People also just need to be careful in terms of driving to the conditions, watching their tiredness levels and taking care."
The data showed loss of balance was the most common injury claimed for during the Easter break in 2014. There were 90 claims made for loss of balance, 48 made for slipping and 14 claims made for injuries sustained after tripping or stumbling.
Nationally, there were 17,905 injury claims made over the four days of Easter in 2014.
The most claims were made for injuries which occurred on the second day of the Easter break which totalled 5365, equating to $4,596,924 in claim costs.
This was a significant drop from the second day of Easter in 2013 when there were 6174 claims made.
ACC spokeswoman Suzanne Muth said claims made during the Easter holiday were no higher than the rest of the year but that didn't mean people should let their guards down.
"We don't really see any differences in the number of claims we receive on Easter and any other day which is probably good because it means that people are still mindful while they are at home and enjoying themselves, whether they are on an Easter egg hunt or just relaxing," she said.
"The numbers seem to be around the average number of claims that we receive each year, so anywhere between three thousand and five and a half thousand per day."
People were encouraged to take caution over the break and keep in mind that home injuries were just as likely as injuries sustained out and about, the spokeswoman said.
"A lot of accidents do happen at home. People need to be wary of risks especially when they are at home where they feel safe so don't pay as much attention as when they are driving or when they are at work.
"Especially with a lot of people going away over the Easter break it also pays to take extra care on the roads," she said.
