Albi & the Wolves celebrate their debut album One Eye Open when they play at Ngongotaha tomorrow night.

Albi & the Wolves celebrate their debut album One Eye Open when they play at Ngongotaha tomorrow night.

The hoedown of the year is happening this weekend when Albi & the Wolves perform at Ngongotaha's Adventure Playground.

The band is unique in that it is a string band using only voices, acoustic guitar, double bass and violin.

According to Karin Vincent of The Rogue Stage, this band is all about the joy of music.

"You want to dance, you want to sing and you just want to engage when you hear them play.

"The energy that comes off them - their sincerity is incredible. They played in Rotorua last year and everybody who walked out the door pleaded with me to bring them back," she said.

The band brings acoustic folk bang up to date, infusing country elements, soul, indie-rock and pop with energy-fuelled performances.

Front man and proud albino Chris George Dent is joined by electric fiddle player Pascal Roggen and Micheal Young on double bass. Together they reinvigorate folk music for today's landscape with world-class musicianship.

They play dynamic original tunes and uplifting arrangements of popular songs from the past and present day. This combination helps the band tap into all demographics from older generations through to university students.

Albi & the Wolves have built up solid momentum in the last 18 months, playing more than 200 live shows including the Auckland and Wellington Folk Festivals.

The Ngongotaha show will have a "relaxed, chilled vibe", said Ms Vincent, where people can bring along their barbecues and she will take along the salad.

Supporting Albi & the Wolves tomorrow night is Tauranga's Jim Jones and The People Temple.
