Former All Black Norm Hewitt is speaking out against animal cruelty tonight.
Mr Hewitt has teamed up with the Rotorua SPCA to give a talk at the Distinction Hotel associating the links between domestic violence and animal cruelty.
The talk starts at 6.30pm and costs $20. Nibbles are provided and your first drink is free.
Mr Hewitt said New Zealand had an unacceptable rate of family violence and he was stepping up to do something about it.
"When I heard about research that linked family violence to animal abuse, I realised the SPCA and I had something in common. It found case after case of violent offenders who started out abusing animals at a young age."
