Happy ending for dumped puppies

Puppies found in a bag dumped in the Ngongotaha Stream will soon find new homes.

The Rotorua SPCA were given the five puppies, possibly staffy/mastiff crosses, last month after a man fishing for eels found them in at the stream.

They have now been sent to an Auckland pet store.

Rotorua SPCA office manager Nadine Brown said people were disgusted and had questioned how someone could callously abandon the puppies.

She said they were underweight when they first arrived but had put on weight during their stay.

"Thankfully we don't have too many of these, we have kittens in boxes on the front door but not puppies dumped in a bag," she said.

"If people are wanting to get rid of animals, we advise they ring us, we will give advice for them to try and re-home them themselves but if they're having difficulties definitely ring us, don't just dump them."

The five puppies were sent to Animates pet shop on Friday.

"We have a good relationship with them and I'm pretty sure they will find a good home."
