A Rotorua teen has pleaded guilty to assault.

A Rotorua teenager has admitted assaulting two boys as they walked to school.

Joshua Leland Mohi, 19, pleaded guilty in the Rotorua District Court last week to two charges of assault.

According to the police summary of facts, the assaults happened about 8.30am on August 6, near the Rotorua Lakes High School fields.

Both victims were students on their way to school.

Mohi approached the first victim and accused him of "making up stories" about him.

He then said "I wanna fight you", the summary stated.

Mohi punched the victim on the nose, then stomped and kicked him three times as the victim lay in a foetal position on the ground.

The victim's cousin then came to his aid and Mohi asked him if he "wanted a rumble".

As they started taking their shirts off, Mohi rushed the second victim and punched him in the head. The pair fell to the ground and while the victim was face down, Mohi punched, kicked and kneed him several times to the face.

He was eventually pulled off by another male, who Mohi also tried to incite a fight with.

Judge James Weir remanded Mohi on bail for sentencing on November 29 and ordered a pre-sentence report be prepared.

"Students are entitled to attend school without being assaulted," he said.
