"I was hitting them nicely all weekend and knew I just needed the putts to go, and they started to go."
The Lake View Golf and Country Club greenkeeper went on to shoot five-under par in his final round, finishing five-under for the tournament.
Edwards said he was absolutely rapt to claim the amateur title, two shots ahead of Janin.
"It gives me a bit of confidence knowing the practice is paying off, and Gav [Gavin Holder] is doing a good job coaching me."
Edwards joked that fellow Waiariki Academy of Sport golfer Janin usually beats him in practice, so it was good to get one over him yesterday.
Both golfers will head to Taupo later this week to try and qualify for the New Zealand PGA, beginning their professional careers.
Janin said there was a few positives to take out of the weekend, but he was annoyed not to have won it after leading by six shots before play began yesterday.
"I just tried to come out and play and set myself a goal, but I did not reach that today.
"I came here to win but Landyn played well, so congratulations to him."
He said things started coming right towards the end of his final round but it was a bit late by then.
Janin shot rounds of 65, 69 and 73 to finish three-under par.
Fellow Bay of Plenty golfer Tyler King and Auckland's Daniel Ruttley finished tied for third, seven shots off the pace.
In the women's competition, it was all smiles and pats on the back for Park who demolished the women's field.
