Rotorua audiences can look forward to an evening of sincere tales and soulful songs when musician Anthony Stretch visits as part of his Kicking and Dreaming tour.
He will perform at a Rogue Stage house concert tomorrow to an intimate audience.
A raconteur and seasoned performer, Stretch has been a touring musician for the past 15 years, Rogue Stage director Karin Vincent said.
"He plays kick bass, guitar and a harmonica. He used to be the front man of The Septembers then he started Anthony Stretch. He describes himself as a 1980s mix tape, and has an alt-country Johnny Cash on the road, really genuine Kiwi sound." Stretch attributes part of his folk/Kiwi alt-country sound to his rural upbringing, listening to the jukebox at the country pub and picking up guitar chords form his Irish grandmother.
Ms Vincent said Stretch connected with his audience through his soulful renditions of classics and his original music, and had hints of Neil Young.
