Rotorua residents are being encouraged to get out, get active, and get fit by either walking or running with their friends and family at the Community Charity Relay later this month.
As a supporting event at the New Zealand Secondary School Relay Championships being held in Rotorua the Community Events team from Rotorua Lakes Council have organised a fun charity relay for locals to get involved in at Agrodome on Sunday June 19.
The relay is a chance for everyone to get out of the house, spend time with friends and whanau, and support a great cause. All proceeds from relay registrations will be donated to Trustpower Community Award winners Te Waiariki Purea Trust for their local youth programmes.
Sport and Recreation portfolio lead councillor Charles Sturt said everyone should get on board and enter the relay.
"I totally support it. Everyone should get out there and get active. We need to support our local secondary school students and especially Te Waiariki Purea Trust."
"They are the champions of Rotorua's young people and do great things for our community," he said.
The Community Charity Relay is suitable for anyone over the age of 10 with each team member either walking or running one kilometre. Teams can be made up of any four people including families, work colleagues, gym buddies or even school classes.
Prizes for best dressed team and most creative baton are up for grabs for those teams with really fun and funky costumes and relay batons. The event has attracted local sponsorship from Flip Out, Waiora Lakeside Spa and Hells Gate and many more who have donated $3000 worth of spot prizes to give away.
Registration costs for each team of four is $20 and can be made online at EventPlus.co.nz until 17 June or late registrations can be made on the day for $30 per team.
