Student mechanics at Rotorua's Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology had some hands on experience delivering free vehicle safety checks as part of this year's local Winter Pit Stop campaign.
The Winter Pit Stop series is all about reminding drivers that it's not just their own safety that needs looking after during the colder months.
Rotorua Lakes Council road safety co-ordinator Reade Nikora said this was the second year a Pit Stop event was based at the polytechnic.
"We wanted to engage with young drivers so that they could use this knowledge to check their own vehicles at home.
"Now that the wait between vehicle Warrant of Fitness checks is longer, it's important drivers are regularly checking their cars to ensure they are safe and reliable to drive, especially in the winter," he said.
