A new exhilarating race with tight corners and a different course is set for the Rotorua Bike Festival.

The Carpark Eliminator event is being held on Sunday October 28, 2.30pm to 9pm, at Pukuatua St carpark building.

It costs $5 for adults to take part.

Carpark Eliminator organiser Jean-Paul Gaston says this is the event's first time in the festival.

"The bike festival was looking at having some more events in the CBD and I'd seen a video of a Christchurch carpark race.

"Once I started looking, I found loads of clips on YouTube from races all over the world."

He says the event involves a short two-at-a-time race from the bottom of the Pukuatua carpark building to the top.

The winner progresses to the next round and the loser is eliminated.

Jean-Paul says this event is a great addition to the Rotorua Bike Festival because it is good for roadies and mountain bikers or any bike you pedal - road, mountain bike, fixie or single speed.

"Racing is short with tight corners, and hopefully quick."

He says that hopefully with the right course it may not be the strongest or quickest riders who win through.

"It should be a fun afternoon of racing, and should also be great as a spectator.

"To make it a fun afternoon we've got music, food carts from the Sunday Market and the Good George combi van serving refreshments."

He says Good George has been kind enough to provide prizes for the different grades.
