"It made us go out and do the cool down you're supposed to after an endurance event," she said.
Day has now completed five full Ironman events, Saturday was her third Ironman New Zealand, and she achieved a new best time of 13h 58m 50s. The other two Ironman races she has completed are Challenge Roth in Germany and Ironman Copenhagen.
"Conditions were ideal on Saturday, the lake was calm and still and the wind stayed away for most of the bike ride. I was thrilled with getting a PB. Jacque passed me on the second lap, I stayed a bit long eating my pineapple and watermelon and couldn't catch her after that."
Webber has now completed six full Ironman races, four in Taupo, and her time in Taupo was 13h 37m 35s. The pair finished the quarter marathon together in 1h 29m 33s.
Day said the reason she participated in so many events was "the people".
"It's the people we've met along the way. I've made so many new friends through doing these events, it makes you move outside your normal circle and mix with people from all walks of life. You just get caught up with it."
At age 55, she also hoped seeing her in action would inspire others.
"It actually is fun in a weird sought of way. We know we're being role models for others, they see us out there, we're always posing for photos. We just hope people see what we're doing and they get involved, we're happy to provide them with some motivation if we can.
"You see the lifestyle changes that start happening, their health improves and their enjoyment of life increases," she said.
The pair's next challenge is the Spirited Women all women's adventure race in Whakatane on from Friday to Sunday before they take on the Ring of Fire 50km Ultra at Mt Ruapehu for the first time in April.
