Free Music at the Band Rotunda event back in Rotorua's Government Gardens

Music at the Band Rotunda will celebrate a decade of showcasing local talent when the series returns this Sunday.

Locals and visitors are invited to relax in Government Gardens over the next seven Sunday afternoons and enjoy a diverse range of performances.

The programme, running from 1pm to 3pm, features local musicians and groups showcasing blues, country, opera, ukulele, show tunes, and rock 'n' roll along with symphonic and pipe and brass bands.

This coming Sunday will feature Simply Random & Rhinestone Mining Co.

Julie Parsons from Rotorua ukulele band The Thermaleles has been involved with Music at the Band Rotunda for eight years and loves it.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for the Rotorua community to come and relax in beautiful surroundings and hear great local musicians," Parsons said.

Guests are encouraged to bring along their own seating or picnic rug and lay back to enjoy the show.

Organiser and Rotorua Lakes Council public art advisor Marc Spijkerbosch has enjoyed watching the annual event grow over the last 10 years.

"Many regulars arrive early to secure their special spot and bring along picnics and deck chairs. It is fantastic to be able to showcase some of our passionate local talent in these free performances," Spijkerbosch said.

Music at the Band Rotunda is brought to you by Creative Rotorua and Rotorua Lakes Council with support from Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust.
