A serious crash on an intersection dubbed "one of the most dangerous in the country" has a local woman calling for change.
Emergency services responded to the crash in Waiotapu yesterday afternoon, which left one person in a critical condition in Rotorua Hospital last night and three others injured.
St John Ambulance spokeswoman Olive Taylor said four patients were taken to hospital. One was in a critical condition, two had moderate injuries, and one had minor injuries.
A police northern communications spokesman said the crash happened about 4.12pm on State Highway 5, involving two cars.
He said the Serious Crash Unit were investigating the cause of the crash, at an intersection near the Waiotapu Tavern.
