"It's all worth it."
Ms Maney's partner and Amaia's father, Maui Hunt, 18, said it was an awesome feeling to hold his daughter for the first time, though he found being in the delivery room as she was born a bit "freaky".
"We're looking forward to the future."
Ms Maney said they knew they were expecting a girl, naming her after an aunty, with the middle names after her and her partner's grandmothers.
Ms Maney's extended family were at Rotorua Hospital with her and Mr Hunt
Raelene Sisley, Ms Maney's mother, said she was proud of her daughter.
"She's the bestest baby girl ever. There will be heaps of whanau to help and support her."
Ms Maney's nan, Waina Kennedy, said she was delighted by the arrival of Amaia, her fourth great-grandchild.
"I'm so proud of Nicole, she did great, and the baby is so beautiful."
Ms Maney said looking forward she would be attending a young parenting course in Rotorua, and hoped she would be able to leave Rotorua Hospital today to take Amaia home.
