A firearms sighting reported to police in Rotorua today turned out to be a false alarm.
A police spokeswoman said staff received a report of a firearm inside a vehicle travelling on State Highway 30 near Rotorua about 1.20pm.
The vehicle was located about 30 minutes later and pulled over by police.
The firearm in question was revealed to be a plastic toy gun.
