The ice rink operates from 10am to 10pm and has protection from the elements.
"This weekend also sees an Ice Carnival on the Harcourts Outdoor Ice Rink with ice games, fun characters, snow sculpting and some fantastic prizes to be won," Mr Cameron said.
The ice carnival events happened between 10.30am and 1.30pm daily, which would be a good time to head along with the kids, he said.
Mr Cameron said that organising outdoor events in winter was always challenging.
"We want to give people the best opportunity to come out, support and enjoy these special events in Rotorua," he said.
"So we've taken the decision to postpone Saturday events this weekend to avoid the concentrated spell of bad weather forecast for the afternoon and evening. Fortunately Sunday's forecast is looking more promising."
Paradice Ice Skating marketing manager Jackie Sanders said people often thought of the ice rink as being outdoors and a fine-weather activity, but with 70 per cent of the facility covered, the rink was a great option for getting out, even when the weather was wet.
They've decided to keep the foam cannon, which pumps out a substance like snow, an extra two days so it will be running until Sunday. She said the kids in particular had been loving it.
Meanwhile, the last week of the school holidays is looking much more positive for those wanting to get outdoors.
Rain is expected to reduce to showers by tomorrow afternoon before clearing completely by Monday, leaving fine weather with just a chance of showers right through until Friday, when the rain is expected to return.
