Grab some popcorn, wrap up in blanket and get ready to watch a disney masterpiece this winter.

The popular Disney movie Frozen, which tells the story of a fearless princess who sets off on an epic journey to find her estranged sister, will be screened on the Village Green as the Rotorua Daily Post Winter Feature Film as part of Rotorua's Fire and Ice Festival on Friday, July 4.

The screening will be one of several events that feature during the month-long festival, which starts next Thursday with the return of the outdoor ice rink.

The festival will also feature the Rotorua Fire Walk and Polar Plunge event, and Blaze Night, a night of fireworks, fire performers and laser light shows.

Lantern making workshops are already under way in the lead up to the Ignite Rotorua Lantern Festival parade on July 26.

Rotorua District Council spokesman Jason Cameron said the festival offered a range of entertaining, quality events to suit people of all ages.

He said the film screening would be a fantastic way to spend a winter night.

"Bring your family and friends, a blanket, your warm winter clothes and spend the night watching a Disney masterpiece."

The event will also give one lucky local an opportunity to get their own film shown on the big screen. Rotorua's Coolest Winter Hot Spot Competition will give entrants the chance to win an Ultimate Family Season Pass from Mt Ruapehu and a weekend for four at The Park Hotel Ruapehu worth more than $2500, and have their winning entry shown prior to the start of the film on July 4.

To enter take a photo or short movie clip showing your take on Rotorua's Coolest Winter Hot Spot. For details visit www.facebook.com/fireandicerotorua
