Rotorua Central Mall has been evacuated after the fire alarms went off.
A northern fire communications spokesman said two fire trucks were at the scene and firefighters were investigating the cause.
The alarm went off at 2.45pm.
A Rotorua Daily Post photographer at the scene said fire crews left the area about 3pm.
