People can expect to hear a good variety of old and new songs, but probably not their biggest hit.
"There will be a great variety of old and new music, but I can guarantee we won't play Wandering Eye.
"It was a really good pop song, and we haven't written another one like it. It drove us insane," he said.
Fat Freddy's Drop had significant success in New Zealand and overseas but always maintained their independence, and had their own record label called The Drop, Mr Gordon said.
He said a career highlight had been pulling large crowds in unusual places.
"Playing London and Berlin is awesome but somewhat expected. It feels really good when you are in an unusual place like Croatia or Portugal, and people want to come to your concert on the other side of the world," he said.
Fat Freddy's Drop is currently working on a new album which they expect will be ready in 2015.
They have released a single called Slings and Arrows.
Fat Freddy's Drop will be performing at the Lakefront on January 2 with support from Meta and the Cornerstones, Manalion, Hipstamatic, The Boom Cat and Strangely Arousing.
