Christian Thurston acknowledges many heading to his farewell concert are doing so simply to support him - but he reckons they'll be in for a big surprise when they hear the calibre of performance.
The former John Paul College head boy will perform in Rotorua on August 23 alongside two of the best tenors in the country, international opera star Simon O'Neill and his tutor and mentor Richard Greager.
The concert is a chance for Thurston to say goodbye before flying out to New York the next day, and also a fundraiser to help out with the $80,000-a-year costs associated with attending the acclaimed Manhattan School of Music, where he has been accepted into the masters degree programme.
"This concert will be a huge help."
Thurston said for Rotorua to have people of such quality performing was huge.
