A Wellington boys' college has banned a student from bringing his male date to this weekend's school ball. We asked our readers on Facebook for their thoughts.
Kelly Stewart Same sex is no different to opposit sex. I think the boys parents should be looking at a discrimination case. I sure would be.

Amber Fletcher Have you guys read the story? The rule for the school is no previous students or rival boy schools students can attend, whereas the school has acknowledged that same sex couples from St Pats can attend. Usually, I'd think this was just an e...xcuse, but they are not even a couple, just mates, one of them is even in a relationship with someone else. It just seems that he wanted to take his mate to the ball and when they said no, and because he is gay, he decided to get the media involved.
Andrea Colledge Correct me if I'm wrong, but all the information I've read on it points to the boys stretching the truth quite a bit. According to many (including the Father/teacher involved) the boy who wanted to bring his mate to the ball was told no bec...ause the other boy is an 'old boy' (ex pupil) and it's against school policy to allow old boys to attend. Also worth mentioning that while one of the boys involved is gay, the other is not. I'm pretty sure the Catholic school wouldn't be happy to have gay couples attend the ball BUT that isn't the issue here. If all the boys brought mates instead of girls it wouldn't exactly be classed as a ball ae. My info is from Stuff's interview and from those telling the other side of the story on the boy's FB page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129644193782898
Amber Fletcher In saying that though, the rule should also exclude girls who are not enrolled in a school to ensure there are no gender biases.
