Rotorua's Ezra Howie has seen everything in the Science Roadshow - he helped set it up at his school.
It was a real treat for the Western Heights High School 14-year-old who had never seen a science roadshow before.
He made the most of his opportunity yesterday to check out the popular Science Roadshow when it arrived at his school and enjoyed it so much, he stayed for the whole day showing other students around. The Roadshow, at Western Heights High School until tomorrow, features two live shows plus interactive exhibits themed around illusions and puzzles, communication, motion, materials, electricity and human performance. Some of the questions answered in the show include how planes fly, why the curtain blows in to you in the shower and what happens to a balloon in a vacuum.
"It's pretty cool, it tells you heaps of stuff about science," Ezra said. While there were a lot of interesting exhibits in the roadshow, his favourites were the speed measuring ball throw, the machine that measures body mass index and movie clips showing surgery procedures. Another favourite with the teenager was the nail bed although he wasn't able to fully lie down on it himself because "it really hurt".
He reckoned even those who were not science addicts would enjoy the roadshow.
Ezra wants to become a medical doctor when he leaves school and said the roadshow was very informative, especially the exhibits on human performance.
