A new outdoor stage will set the scene at the Rotorua Youth Centre free cultural community festival and family event tonight.

Event organiser Kane Merrie said the festival to be held on the Youth Centre Reserve in Te Ngae Rd opposite Countdown had been scheduled to celebrate youth culture.

There would be an assortment of entertainment provided by local performers ranging from kapa haka to salsa, belly dancing, hip hop and Chinese folk dance.

Local singers Stella Maris, Urban Focus, Method Man and Breakthrew would also perform, Mr Merrie said.

A wide range of food would be available from Maori hangi, American barbecue, Mexican nachos, Indian curries, and traditional steam pudding.

People attending the festival would also be able to try a range of sports activities.

The festival would not be taking place if not for generous funding from the Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund 2014, and the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, Mr Merrie said.

Gates would open at 4pm.
