Rotorua economist and educator Fletcher Tabuteau will represent Rotorua and New Zealand First in Parliament for the next three years after getting in on the list.
Mr Tabuteau spent the night in Tauranga with colleagues from the party watching results roll in on television.
When this story went live on the Rotorua Daily Post website New Zealand First were polling 8.9 per cent of the vote nationwide with 83 per cent of the vote counted.
Mr Tabuteau said he was keen to get on with the job and the party's main priorities of overhauling the Reserve Bank Act to encourage export growth and removing GST from food and rates.
"I'm still trying to process it all, I'm very grateful for all the support and enthusiasm from the people in the community.
