Editorial:Good to spend time with those loved ones

When it comes to my kids, I have to admit I'm a big softy.

I'm not sure my son and daughter would agree with this statement all the time. But it would be fair to say most of the time, they tend to wrap their dad around their little fingers.

Tomorrow is the last day of the school holidays and my daughter and son have spent the majority of their time with their grandmother in Kawerau. When it comes to sending my kids off on holiday, I'm terrible. I miss them like crazy and can get a little miserable when they're not around.

But for some strange reason, this holiday has been different. My wife and I have had an enjoyable time just hanging with each other spending some quality time. It's rather ironic, to be honest, because she used to always say to me to stop moping and use that wasted energy on giving her the extra attention. Now that's not verbatim but something along those lines.

As at least 50 per cent of the country would say, "women are always right". It has been a pleasure spending that time with someone you care about.

However, by the time you read this my kids will be home and I'll be lavishing all my attention on them. I've got two more days before the kids go back to school so I'm going to make the best of it.

I've noticed my lawns have gotten a little longer since my son has been away ... Maybe I'll give him some time getting reintroduced to the lawnmower.
