The triennial local body elections are still four months away but for those considering a tilt it could well seem like no time.
It's already June and, at this stage, nominations open next month, closing a month later.
In Saturday's paper we reported on those who have already indicated their intention to stand this year. More will come forward in the next few months but already Mayor Kevin Winters and 11 of 12 councillors have said they will stand again. Councillor Maggie Bentley told us she will not stand.
On top of that, former Rotorua MP Steve Chadwick is to challenge for the mayoralty, while newcomers Peter Bentley and Fraser Newman and former candidate Victor Storey intend to stand for council.
