Someone is stealing rubbish bags in the Bay of Plenty. Photo / File

I know there are some big problems in this world and stolen rubbish bags isn't exactly up there - but seriously? What lengths will people stoop to next?

The problem has got so bad locally, the Rotorua District Council issued a statement yesterday reminding people that nicking bundles of rubbish bags amounts to theft.

It seems the thefts are a bit more sinister than just pinching a few rubbish bags from your neighbour's driveway when they're not looking (which, by the way, is still theft).

The council has had reports from the Mamaku area of a local seen driving a car a short distance behind the council rubbish delivery truck, sending a child out to pick up the bundles shortly after they are dropped off. It's disgusting children are being used to do this.

The council has also been made aware of rubbish bags being stolen and then onsold for a profit.

Come on people. If you're that hard up for money, take a longer look at yourself. You're not going to get rich selling stolen rubbish bags. Besides, your actions are just a nuisance for others.
