Those handling the employment debacle involving former Rotorua Chamber of Commerce chief executive Roger Gordon have come out and publicly apologised for the way it was handled.
Mr Gordon, who had been at the helm for more than nine years, has maintained he learned of his ousting through a storyin the Rotorua Daily Post, while on extended sick leave.
Chamber spokesman and executive member Jonathan Temm had previously told a meeting of chamber members a statement about the employment ending was provided to the Chamber's lawyers and Mr Gordon's lawyers before it went to the press.
Whatever went wrong in that communication process, Mr Temm and the Chamber have now publicly apologised to Mr Gordon in a statement released yesterday.
Both parties, and the Rotorua business community, are no doubt pleased the employment dispute has been resolved without going through an Employment Relations Authority hearing. We don't need to hear the ins and outs of what went wrong in the relationship.
The fact they have now settled means the Rotorua Chamber can move forward and concentrate on its job of building the business network and prospects in our city.
It's a tough job under trying economic conditions, but it's time we had a new leader with fresh ideas who can take Rotorua to the heights it deserves.
