Bay of Plenty rugby is turning 100 - so let's get behind our boys and celebrate.
The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union has been the controlling force of rugby in schools, communities and preparing teams to represent the area from Te Whanau a Apanui, Opotiki, Whakatane, Rangitaiki, Galatea, Rotorua, Te Puke and Tauranga since 1911.
In that time there have been 1159 players who have represented the Bay of Plenty.
To celebrate 100 years, the union is doing it big. Not only have they released a new Steamers jersey representing their players, a centenary jubilee is also being held in Rotorua between August 12 and August 14.
This coincides with the ITM Cup match between the Steamers and Hawke's Bay on August 13 at the Rotorua International Stadium.
Rotorua is the original home of Bay of Plenty rugby so it's great to see the centenary celebratory match being played in the city.
So, in this Battle of the Bays, let's show the Steamers how much support they have from Rotorua residents and the rest of the Bay of Plenty by getting to that game.
But, let's get behind our boys even before that. Let's show them support right throughout the provincial rugby competition.
The Daily Post is showing its support by running a weekly Bay Rugby Fan Page. Here you will find a variety of Steamers and Bay of Plenty Rugby Union stories giving their fans an insight to the players, coaching team, Bay rugby and more. We hope you enjoy.
