Editorial: Jackpot fever breaks out again

The jackpot for last night's Big Wednesday draw was a whopping $27 million - and that sparked a lot of conversation in the office.

The jackpot prompted many people to buy themselves a Big Wednesday ticket, even though they don't normally get them, in the hope of winning a piece of the prize.

Some people were telling others not to bother buying a ticket because they already had the winning one and many were spending it in their heads.

We even put a poll on our website asking people how they would spend their winnings if they were to win a big one. The most common ideas on how people would spend their winnings was on a house, family, travel and saving it.

Our odds of winning are pretty slim at the best of times - but we have hope. It's the mentality of you've got to be in to win and, if you are lucky enough to actually win, imagine how life-changing it can be.

We have reported in yesterday's paper that Lotto outlets had been buzzing with people buying tickets to get in the chance to win.

Outlets said at least every third person was buying a ticket and those who were regular Big Wednesday customers seemed to be upgrading their tickets for more chances of winning.

Who wouldn't want to not have to worry about money? Who wouldn't want to be able to help your closest friends and family out and who wouldn't want nice things? It's free to dream, but it costs about $12 to try your luck.
