Editorial: It's time to enjoy the long evenings

Now that our region has done its bit for the Rugby World Cup, with three superb games of footy under our belts, we can sit back and take in the closing stages of the pool rounds and enjoy the big guns battling it out in the finals stages.

Plus, we have the added bonus of supporting the Warriors who face Manly in the NRL Grand Final tomorrow  night.

Any living room wars over control of the remote will come to a head on an afternoon when the All Blacks, in what should undoubtedly be a romp, play their final pool match against Canada, and three New Zealand rugby league sides - the Vulcans, Junior Warriors and Warriors play title matches across the Tasman.

Non-fans of the oval ball codes might need to consider other options for a large part of the day - especially during the Grand Final.

It's a bit like the Rugby World Cup though. Even if you're not a fan of the game, it's great to get caught up in the enthusiasm.

Barbecue season has arrived and tomorrow's big game is the perfect excuse to invite friends over to chuck on a few sausages and chops before gathering around the telly.

Not that we need an excuse to start enjoying the long evenings.

Meanwhile, those not watching the Warriors tomorrow night should be aware there could be a lot of whooping and hollering around the neighbourhood as the evening wears on, ideally followed by cries of joy as our side wins the match and the title.
