Editorial: Healthy option for busy lives

Life seems to get busier doesn't it?

Just when you think you've run out of hours in the day to get everything done, along comes a new invention or service to make things just that little bit easier.

One such helping hand has been revealed in the news this week.

Former Rotorua woman and ex-Telecom chief executive Theresa Gattung has invested a 40 per cent share in a new Auckland-based business called My Food Bag.

The business is in partnership with MasterChef 2011 winner Nadia Lim, among others, and involves customers being delivered fresh food and recipes five days a week.

For a "classic" service costing $179 you get five meals for a family of four.

For those with a bit of extra cash, there's a "gourmet" service which costs $139 for two people for four meals.

I've checked out the website and the meals look delicious - and healthy.

Although you still have to cook the meals yourself, the My Food Bag website claims each meal only takes 30 minutes to cook and prepare.

Have a think how much food you chuck out each week because you haven't had time to cook it, or you've planned your weekly shop badly and items you bought didn't go with each other.

If you had your ingredients waiting for you when you got home from work, there would be no need to swing past the supermarket on the way home to grab a few things for dinner.

While some might say this service epitomises extravagance or laziness, I for one hope the businesses booms and a branch opens in Rotorua.
