Two Rotorua high school students have talked their way through speech and drama exams to claim scholarships.
Warna Karunanayake, 14, a Year 10 student at Western Heights High School, won the Junior Civic Arts Speech Scholarship while fellow student Phoebe Johnson, 16, in Year 12 won the Senior Civic Arts Speech Scholarship.
The scholarships, each worth $250, were awarded by the Rotorua Energy Charitable Arts Trust after the girls topped both junior and senior international Trinity Guildhall London exams in Speech and Drama for Rotorua.
Warna scored 92 out of 100 in her junior exam, while Phoebe claimed 93 per cent in the senior test.
"I love speech and drama and the fact that all the hard work is paying off means a lot. It makes me feel proud of what I can do," said Warna.
